A 3.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Malibu area at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 3 miles (5 km) west-northwest of Malibu, at a depth of 10 miles (16 km).

The earthquake was widely felt throughout the Malibu area, and some residents reported feeling shaking as far away as Los Angeles and Ventura County.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, but the earthquake did cause some power outages in the Malibu area.

The USGS has issued a yellow alert for the Malibu area, indicating that there is a moderate risk of aftershocks.
