Stars-Oilers Recap: Highway Robbery in Edmonton

Stars' playbook backfires as Oilers score quick goals to steal win

Janmark, Draisaitl goals lift Edmonton to 5-2 home victory

The Edmonton Oilers turned the tables on the Dallas Stars on Monday night, using a quick pair of goals in the second period to secure a 5-2 home victory. After the Stars scored first, Mattias Janmark and Leon Draisaitl netted goals just 51 seconds apart to give the Oilers the lead. Edmonton held on to that lead the rest of the way, despite a late rally by the Stars.

The Stars, who have been one of the NHL's hottest teams since the start of December, controlled much of the play in the first period and took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Roope Hintz. But the Oilers, who have struggled to score goals all season, responded with two quick strikes in the second period to take a 2-1 lead. Janmark's goal came on a power play, while Draisaitl's goal was a highlight-reel play where he skated through the Stars' defense and beat goalie Jake Oettinger with a backhand shot.

The Stars pushed back and tied the game later in the second period on a goal by Jason Robertson. But the Oilers regained the lead early in the third period on a goal by Connor McDavid, and they added an empty-net goal late in the game to seal the win.

The win was the Oilers' third in a row, and it moved them into a tie for sixth place in the Western Conference. The Stars, meanwhile, saw their four-game winning streak come to an end. They remain in first place in the Central Division, but their lead over the Winnipeg Jets is now just two points.

The Oilers will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Stars will also be back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Calgary to take on the Flames.
