Pea-size hail, heavy rains, and strong winds swept through Madison County Iowa, southwest of Des Moines, in a first round of storms on Tuesday.

CNN reported that seven people, including two children, died in a series of tornadoes that ripped through multiple counties near Des Moines, Iowa.

At least eight tornadoes were spotted across Iowa on Friday. Large swaths of the southeastern portion of the state reported extensive damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornadoes and said it will survey the damage on Saturday to determine the strength of the storms.

The search for survivors was halted overnight due to darkness and will resume on Saturday morning.
